Rogue Ampersands Invade Poland: The Truth About Punctuation Graffiti
Bright red, three-dimensional ampersands, parentheses, question marks, and asterisks have been popping up around the sketchier parts of Wroclaw, Poland. It's not some street art spin-off of Schoolhouse Rock but "Urbanirony," a new project by 24-year-old artist and designer Krystian Czaplicki (a.k.a. "Truth") created for the Wroclaw Gallery of Contemporary Art. The style marks a new phase of Czaplicki's work -- iconeye's Beatrice Galilee calls the project "a move away from abstract or incidental tags towards a more narrative, communicative approach." Plus, the sneaky punctuation marks manage to bring verbal wit to their surroundings...without saying a word.
