‘Twas a big night on Tuesday evening for handsome, man-about-design, Yves Behar, who took home the first ever Brit Insurance Design Award at a ceremony held in London’s Design Museum and was presented to him by one Mr. James Dyson. Behar took home the prize for his oft-discussed One Laptop Per Child computer, beating out other finalists like what everyone thought might be his closest contender, Penguin‘s Deluxe Edition reprintings of classic books. Behar said the award was the “icing on the cake” for an ongoing project described by Deyan Sudjic, the Design Museum’s director, as “a good deed in a cruel world”.The computer uses 90% less power than standard laptops, and has a screen that can easily be read in sunlight. It has a wi-fi antenna and can be networked.
