Zaha Hadid’s Architecture Foundation Plans Scrapped

0218hadidarch.jpg

In case you missed it, going into the weekend, it was surely a sad close to the week for Zaha Hadid who learned that The Architecture Foundation building she was planning to construct in London, her first on her home soil, will not be built, despite three years of work being put into the plans. After too many turnovers by developers and too many disagreements over the costs involved, it has now been officially scrapped. Here’s a bit from Building magazine:

The project has been dogged with problems since Hadid won the competition in 2004 with a budget of 2.25m. Costs more than doubled as the project progressed, and eventually Allies and Morrison was appointed to “oversee the construction” of Hadid’s design in 2006.

…Zaha Hadid said: “It’s disappointing news. As a catalyst for architectural discussion through its exhibitions, competitions, lectures and debates, the foundation deserves a permanent home.”
