![]() Moderator: Brad Burnham Partner Union Square Ventures | ![]() Hank Williams CEO, Kloudshare Conference Co-chair | ![]() Michael Cataldo CEO Cambridge Semantics |
New data models built on the concept of freely connecting data objects are the foundation of the next generation of the Web, but more importantly, the next generation of data management. Also known as the graph data model, the metaphor offers a flexible framework that, among other things, has the potential to address what is arguably the biggest issue in enterprise IT, the "silo-ization" of data. This session will discuss the strategic issues and opportunities that arise in the context of leveraging a more flexible data model.

Most of the world's information is still in the form of text. Today's semantic text analysis systems offer incredible tools for extracting structured data and value from text. This session will provide an overview of the types of applications and tools that are available to extract operational value from text on the Web, in corporate documents, and elsewhere.
2:10pm3:00pm: Monetizing Connected Data, Not Pages
![]() Moderator: Bernard Lunn COO ReadWriteWeb | ![]() Luigi LoPresti Founder & CEO ONUS Consulting | ![]() Andraz Tori CTO Zemanta | ![]() Julie Nielsen Director of Client Strategy appssavvy |
TechCrunch estimates that 50% of the ad revenue and content-based monetization are going to disappear in 2009. Moreover, most Web 2.0 startups have, failed to deliver alternative new business and revenue models. Reach and frequency ad models are still in the norm, but have reached the consumer saturation threshold. Consumer focus online has started to move from the center (a few good portals, big content sites) to the edge (niche content, blogs, content syndication, etc.). This makes it difficult for any but the largest websites to monetize their audiences independently. This session explores new, data-driven value creation models and techniques that can help bridge the monetization gap.

![]() Moderator: Dan Grigorovici Pres., Disruptive Logic Conference Co-chair | ![]() Steve Lavine CEO Transparensee | ![]() John Stockton Senior RIA Developer Ascentium | ![]() Dan Willis Consultant Sapient |
Data is empowering when presented well, but can be burdensome when presented poorly. This session will cover data management and visualization technologies that can greatly improve user experience and, as a result, customer satisfaction.
3:35pm4:25pm: Monetizing the Social Graph
![]() Moderator: Marta Strickland Manager Strategy Organic Inc | Brian Killen VP Business Development Unbound Technologies | ![]() Eric Wheeler CEO 33Across | ![]() Ro Choy Chief Revenue Officer RockYou |
Social network popularity has proved that the social element is invaluable for users interacting with information. But the major social networks are not yet financially successful relative to their user bases. One reason for this is that after a few failed attempts, their revenue model is still page/content-based. In this session you will learn how to apply new people-centric approaches to monetization.

10:00am10:50am: Exploring Implications of Massive Computing Power in the Cloud
![]() Moderator: Karen Teng VP of Engineering AdaptiveBlue | ![]() Mayank Bawa CEO Aster Data Systems | ![]() Ravi Krishnamurthy Chief Software Architect Kickfire Inc. |
Increasing levels of data capture and new Web 3.0 data models such as graph databases, the social graph, etc., are creating new opportunities to extract value from data. Enormous computing power is often necessary to really make sense of it. Yet, building data centers capable of processing all that data efficiently can be prohibitively expensive. Cloud computing offers the ability to leverage dozens or even hundreds of servers on an hourly as-needed basis. In this session we will discuss technologies and strategies for using cloud computing for significant business advantage.

11:15am12:00pm: Strategic Implications of the Mashup
Moderator: Mike Young Chief Creative Technologist The New York Times | ![]() Paul Knegten Head of Marketing Dapper Inc. | ![]() Oren Michels Co-Founder & CEO Mashery | ![]() Tristan Harris CEO Apture |
Just as the "silo-ization" of data into many disconnected islands has made data management more costly and complex than necessary, so too has the "silo-ization" of applications. Mashups - applications that can draw data from multiple sources - are fundamentally changing what it means to be an application. It looks like this shift will have far-reaching implications across all of computing. This session will explore the current impact of the mashup and its likely future implications.
