FoxNews.comFoxNews.com and GE, Sitting In a TreeIt's well known that little love is lost between Fox News Channel star Bill O'Reilly and General Electric CEO Jeffrey Immelt, who long has been the target of O'Reilly broadsides. Here's one from earlier this month. Commenting in his syndicated column about the recently released White House guest list, O'Reilly writes: General Electric CEO Jeffrey Immelt went to the White House five times. NBC, owned by GE, has been extremely generous to Obama, and now GE wants government contracts for environmental work. This has the appearance of a quid-pro-quo. I hope NBC investigative reporter Lisa Myers looks into it. The mutual enmity between the two news organizations -- and particularly between O'Reilly and Msnbc news host Keith Olbermann -- got to the point that a "summit" was held earlier this year between Immelt and News Corp.'s Rupert Murdoch to negotiate an end to hostilities. Still, it's sort of weird to see a GE ad on FoxNews.com. But there it is, in the screenshot below.
Of course, business is business. When O'Reilly and Olbermann co-host a show, then we'll know that all truly is forgiven. Sorry, Folks: GlennBeckRapedAndMurderedAYoungGirlIn1990.com Is Not for Sale
Beck had not responded to the offer, which was made after Eiland-Hall won his domain-dispute case at the World Intellectual Property Organization last week, according to XBIZ.com. As reported by XBIZ.com, the WIPO panel said in the ruling: (The panel is) very reluctant to reject respondent's claim of legitimate noncommercial and fair use. Were we to hold otherwise, there can be little doubt that political cartoonists and satirists would be subjected to damages awards without any showing that their work falsely defamed its subject. This panel considers that if Internet users view the disputed domain name in combination with a visit to respondent's Website, the "total effect" is that of political commentary by respondent, capable of protection as political speech by the First Amendment under the Hustler Magazine standard. Eiland-Hall wrote in a letter to Beck, as reported by XBIZ.com: It bears observing that by bringing the WIPO complaint, you took what was merely one small critique meme, in a sea of Internet memes, and turned it into a super-meme. Then, in pressing forward (by not withdrawing the complaint and instead filing additional briefs), you turned the super-meme into an object lesson in First Amendment principles. But (I) want to demonstrate to you that I had my lawyer fight this battle only to help preserve the First Amendment. Now that it is safe, at least from you (for the time being), I have no more use for the actual scrap of digital real estate you sought. Fox Cancels Reality...Channel
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Fox Reality Channel staffers were told Wednesday of the decision to cease broadcasting: "With the changing cable landscape, we've made a strategic decision to shift some resources and refocus on emerging channels," the company said. "However, Fox Reality Channel will remain on our lineup for at least the next several months." I just hope this means American Idol Extra is still on when Season 9 begins in January. To watch the seventh-place finisher from Season 5 interview the latest eliminated contestants about their shattered hopes and dreams...well, television doesn't get any better. Fox News' Ainsley Earhardt introduces the interactive map and details its use in the video below: Roger Friedman Sues Fox News
Fox News fired Friedman in April after he reviewed a copy of 20th Century Fox feature film Wolverine that was leaked over the Internet. The network claimed that Friedman's review constituted an endorsement of piracy. Friedman, who now writes for The Hollywood Reporter, is seeking $5.18 million in damages for wrongful termination, tortious interference and libel defamation. According to the Huffington Post, Friedman is expected to claim that Fox News parent News Corp. caved in to pressure from Scientologists, as he wrote columns critical of that religion. Gibbs Dunks Fox News, Then Gets DunkedWhite House press secretary Robert Gibbs had an eventful day Friday, first taking a playful swipe at Fox News Channel, then getting playfully soaked in a dunk tank at the Congressional Luau, Aslyum.com reported. First, during the press briefing, a reporter committed the sin of botching a cliché, asking if the deficit "keeps [President Obama] asleep at night," instead of awake. Gibbs corrected him, and then added, "Fox is what puts him to sleep." Fox News failed to get its revenge when Gibbs mounted the dunk tank at the Congressional Luau, as correspondent Mike Emanuel threw wildly on all three attempts, but AP's Ben Feller was up to the task, leaving the press secretary all wet. CBS' Bill Plante threw a strike later, as well. FNC Moves Fox News Watch to the WebBecause of expanded programming on the death of Michael Jackson, Fox News preempted the 2pmET Saturday programs Journal Editoral Report and Fox News Watch. But, in a first, the network went ahead with the production of Fox News Watch and took it directly online. This weekend's episode is available now, here. Greta Van Susteren's Web Makeover
I hope you all will like the new website. I think it is much better - although there is a bit of a learning curve for me. Once it is launched, we call all start working together to make the changes and adjustments in it. But, I at least wanted you to see the new look so you did not think I was lying (I have been promising this new GretaWire for months!!) Freedom Watch Fans Mobilize OnlineJudge Andrew Napolitano hosts Freedom Watch for one hour each week on FoxNews.com's Strategy Room, and the libertarian Web show has developed a devoted following. There's an unofficial Website to the show, and a libertarian blog, BreaktheMatrix.com, frequently posts about the program. In a post yesterday morning, the site says Freedom Watch "is being considered for an open time slot on Fox News Channel." Despite the growing popularity of the program in the Web community, an FNC spokesperson tells us Freedom Watch is not being considered for a slot on the air.
