"It's the Web vs. the world, people!"

At 2:13amET today, Ashton Kutcher (@APlusK) successfully defeated CNN (@CNNBrk) in his quest to be the first Twitter member to reach 1 million followers (the contest was for charity).

After a late push by CNN to take the lead — an on-air promo for the Twitter feed — Kutcher took to his version of "on-air": Ustream.tv. For nearly two hours, Kutcher live-streamed from his house, featuring special guest appearances from his wife, Demi Moore (@MrsKutcher), Soleil Moon Frye (@MoonFrye) and a phone call from Diddy (@IAmDiddy).

"Today we have done something extraordinarily special...You guys are all of it, because I can't follow me," he said after the victory. "I don't even count. There are a million people that need to be thanked for this, and I'm not one of them."
