People share all kinds of interesting things on Twitter. don’t they? Here’s one to add to your list: Steven Soderbergh (he’s a director) is tweeting a novella as he writes it.
But what’s different here is the story. It’s a delightful little ball of abstraction that will pull you in and (possibly) drown you. Yes, there’s murder involved. And swearing (you’ve been warned).
“Magic Mike” director Steven Soderbergh is tweeting a novella:
And, as you may have guessed, ’tis not a children’s story.
As Salon.com shares, it’s a “crime mystery told in the second-person.” And I guess that’s what it is, but it’s a lot more besides.
There are many seemingly random pictures interspersed with thought and dialogue that’s abstract on its own and loosely related to the imagery.
And then there are the characters. Some are identified only by first initial (at least initially), rounding out the reader’s confusion – but it’s a confusion that pulls you in and makes you want to learn more:
Just TRY to say you don’t want to know what THAT’s about. Go ahead, liar. Not that it matters, as I don’t think this story will be big on spelling out answers.
The name of the work is “Glue” but a better title (in my opinion) would be “Blur.” The whole thing moves very quickly, even by Twitter standards – and for so few details, it’s a very visual story (even without the images, which I find unnecessary).
It’s a quick read (so far) and worth checking out – particularly as we all know you haven’t read a “real” book in months. For shame.
The last entry ended Chapter 11 and we aren’t sure if there will be a Chapter 12 or if that was the end of the story. We sent him a tweet to find out and update this post when he replies!
Have you tried tweeting your writing or come across any fantastic writers?
