Recent studies have shown that social media is now helping one in six job-hunters find a new position, and 89 percent of recruiters check the social media profiles of prospective candidates when looking to make a new hire. What are they searching for? Bad behaviour, predominately, including references to illegal drugs, sexual content, spelling and grammatical errors and alcohol consumption.
If you’re in the business of using social media for business, then it’s important that you educate yourself on which social platforms are right for your industry and how you can best use these channels to maximise brand awareness and exposure, generate leads, drive website traffic and, ultimately, convert that interest into sales.
Did you know that 87 percent of business to business (B2B) marketers use social media for content marketing? Content marketing – or the creation and sharing of original content (usually media) to acquire customers – is big business. And big business is paying attention, and with good reason: 61 percent of customers say that they feel better about a company that delivers custom content, and seven in ten say they prefer to learn about a company through articles, as opposed to an advertisement.
In an embarrassing episode picked up by Gizmodo, Bank of America’s customer service Twitter account @BofA_Help made a downright fool of itself – demonstrating exactly how not to conduct customer relations on Twitter.
Did you know that each and every minute of the day, 100,000 tweets are sent, 684,478 pieces of content are shared on Facebook and 3,600 photos are published on Instagram? Think that’s all? Far from it. Every 60 seconds 48 hours of video are uploaded to YouTube, 47,000 apps are downloaded from the App Store and an amazing two million search queries are made on Google.
Did you know that 27 percent of the total time spent online is now dedicated to social networking? What if I told you that 84 percent of online shoppers use social media sites, that social media produces almost double the leads of trade shows, telemarketing, direct mail and cost per click (CPC) marketing, or that social media lead conversion rates are 13 percent higher than the average?
