It’s here! It’s here! It’s finally here! Thousands upon thousands of gamers can now breathe easy, as the Xbox One is now on store shelves in 13 countries across the globe. But just how did these eager gamers react to the console’s launch on Twitter?
Twitter is a great proving ground for a new product launch, as people are often delighted to share their first impressions publicly in a tweet or two.
Using the hashtag #XboxOne to track the chatter, media monitoring and analysis company MediaMiser took a look at what people were saying about the new console on launch day, Friday November 22nd.
The hashtag saw a huge spike just after 12AM when it launched, and mentions tapered off throughout the day. Celebrities like British pop singer Conor Maynard and CNN reporter Chris Morrow caused small spikes in the hashtag chatter when they mentioned the console and Microsoft, respectively.
Interestingly, the #XboxOne hashtag saw a total of 76,910 tweets – well below the 101,114 #PS4 tweets MediaMiser dug up for the PS4 on its launch day just a week prior.
The #XboxOne chatter also notably lacked a spike as large as the one the #PS4 enjoyed, thanks to One Direction’s Louis Tomlinson.
Still, the numbers for both consoles are solid. It will be interesting to see how the battle of the gaming systems continues to play out!
