South By Southwest Interactive wrapped earlier this week – so who was the big star of the show?
Twitter itself got a big head start itself during the 2007 SXSW Interactive, winning an award in the “Blog” category, and many other big names in tech have grabbed up awards and acclaim at the event over the years.
The buzz matters at an event like SXSW, and there’s really no better way to gauge buzz than by following the tweets.
Social curation startup Mass Relevance took a look at the Twitter firehose during SXSW to see how the attendees were tweeting.
The volume of overall tweets was quite high. A total of 859,171 tweets were sent during the entire five-day event, with Monday’s 201,177 being the highest. And when looking at who got the most tweets, keynote speaker Baratunde Thurston took the crown with 3,851 tweets and sponsor Samsung scored 2,401.
And Jay-Z got the most retweets over the five days, with 2,082 retweets on the following tweet:
“@JAYZ to perform at #SXSW on Monday at 7pm CT, hosted by @AmericanExpress. Watch the show live on @YouTube #JAYZSyncShow http://bit.ly/yTbZZc”
Oddly enough, only 7 percent of tweets contained multimedia like photos or videos. However, there were 33,860 profanity-ridden tweets sent during SXSW.
