Instagram introduced a new feature Thursday that allows users to privately share photos and videos among fellow members. Called Instagram “Direct,” the new feature is found in the top right corner of the app under the icon that looks something like a mailbox or inbox.
Using the Direct function is pretty simple. Click on the Direct icon, and then use the big plus sign in the top right corner to send a new private photo or video. You’ll be able to select the video or photo of your choosing, along with filters, and then select who to send it to from a drop-down list of your followers. You can select multiple people, as well as search for a name not among your followers.
The new update was available for iOS and Android apps Thursday and in beta for Windows.
Facebook purchased the photo-sharing site last year for $1 billion. It has around 150 million users now.
