We still haven’t seen an iPad Mini in real life but that hasn’t stop the rumors. 9to5Mac reported last night that the new iPad Mini is going to look much more like the iPod Touch than it does the iPad.
Their sources have indicated that the iPad Mini schematics which leaked last month, and were widely believed to be fake, might indeed be the real thing:
We received a number of tips over the last few weeks from sources that we have reason to believe hold knowledge about Apple’s plans on the upcoming iPad mini. A recurring theme of late is that the iPad mini will “look like a big iPod touch” with smaller bezels along the sides in portrait mode and separate volume buttons and not a “rocker” and a mic on the back.
I’m not sure this rumor is plausible, but it is interesting and would be a major change from the design of the iPad. You wouldn’t be able to hold the iPad Mini by long edge (like you might with the iPad), but I don’t see that as a major issue. I have a number of 7″ tablets and I grab them from behind. My fingers and thumb are on the edges, so the narrow screen bezel on the iPad Mini wouldn’t be a problem.
