Are you a slow reader? Syllable, a new iOS app that is currently in beta, aims to help you change all that. The app teaches you how to speed read by avoiding subvocalization, which is when you read words to yourself vocally, a process that can slow down reading. Here is more about the approach:
Blurr helps to reduce this subvocalization by pacing through the reading at a rate you define, only showing one word at a time. Once you get up to a faster speed, you can also use chunks, or how many words to show at once. Learning to read in chunks allows you to read even quicker.
The app pulls content from your Instapaper or Pocket account, so you can learn to read quickly while reading articles that you already wanted to read in the first place. The app isn’t widely available yet, but if you follow this link you can get an email for when it goes live.
