Maile Meloy’s New Horror Story Featured in Byliner Subscription Service

devotionByliner, the online publisher that releases short fiction and non-fiction stories, has launched a new horror-themed short story in time for Halloween. Devotion: A Rat Story by Maile Meloy  is available through Byliner’s subscription reading service (you can buy it a-la-carte for $1.99 from any of the eBook stores too).

The site publishes exclusive stories every week. A subscription to the service costs $9.99 a month, but right now they are running a promotion and you can pay $5.99 a month for a subscription. The app gives subscribers unlimited access to Byliner’s curated library of stories from well-known writers including Michael Pollan, David Sedaris and Taylor Branch. In January, the company began running Atwood’s original series Positron, for instance. Byliner’s stories are short enough to read on your coffee break, or your subway ride to work. “Think of us as dim sum for hungry minds,” the website boasts.

You can read Byliner stories on a computer, through a mobile browser on your phone and through their iPad app.

The eBooks will become available at OverDrive-powered libraries and schools in the U.S. and Canada on May 8th. This includes more than 5,000 Hachette eBooks from authors including: David Baldacci, Sara Zarr, Sandra Brown, James Patterson, David Sedaris and Kate Atkinson.

“Hachette Book Group offers many of the most beloved authors and series in the world and we’re thrilled to be able to offer them to our OverDrive network,” explained Erica Lazzaro, director of publisher relations at OverDrive, in a statement. “We’ve worked hard to support and advocate for libraries by adding the top publishers and most popular eBooks and audiobooks, and bringing Hachette into the fold reaffirms the important role that libraries play in connecting readers with books and authors.”
