5 Best Tablets To Give This Holiday Season

iPad Mini

It’s been a busy year for tablet makers. To help you navigate through all of the choices that are available for sale this holiday season, we’ve put together a list of the top 5 tablets that are available this year. Each entry includes the name of the device, the price and some details that summarize the tablet’s features.

1. iPad 4/iPad Mini, $499 16GB/$329 16GB: Apple is back this year with two new choices in iPad — the iPad 4 and the iPad Mini. The iPad 4 has a 9.7-inch LED backlit screen with a resolution of 2048 x 1536. It has two high-def cameras for shooting images and videos (720/1080) and for using Facetime. It runs a dual core A6X chip. The iPad Mini is Apple’s 7.9-inch tablet that runs Apple’s dual-core A5 chip. It comes with a 1024-by-768 resolution screen, two cameras and comes with a lightning to USB cable. Both sell apps through the App Store.

2. Kindle Fire HD (7-inch 16GB $199/8.9-inch 32GB $499): The latest 7-inch Kindle tablet comes with a 1280×800 HD display with an anti-glare filter, a 1.2 Ghz dual-core processor, as well as Dolby speakers, and a camera for shooting photos, videos and using Skype. The 8.9-inch version has a 1920×1200 HD display and a 1.5Ghz dual-core processor. These Android devices can access apps through Amazon’s App Store. Read more

Apple Sells 3 Million iPads in 3 Days

Apple released their two latest tablets last Friday and it looks like the sales over the launch weekend didn’t live up to Apple’s past record. They’ve just announced that they sold three million iPad 4s and iPad Minis in the past three days.

While you might be impressed by the word million, it’s really not all that amazing. In comparison, Apple sold 5 million iPhones 5 in the first weekend. Back in March, Apple sold three million iPads 3 in the first three days after it was launched.

To put it in perspective, this past weekend Apple needed two tablets to match the sales quantity they achieved with  a single tablet back in March sold as many iPads Mini and iPads4 as they sold iPad 3 (Wifi and LTE models combined) in March. These sales figures might still be higher than most any Android tablet but they only equal do not match Apple’s past successes; they do not exceed it.

It would seem to me that the bloom has gone off the rose, or perhaps the apple has developed a blemish.

Apple Releases First iPad Mini Commercial

The launch of the iPad Mini yesterday marked the beginning of both speculation about Apple next product (I’m thinking the iPad Maxi with a 13″ screen) as well as new commercials. Apple commercials are usually clever and/or funny, and the first one iPad Mini is no exception.

I’m sure you recognize the song played in the commercial. It’s called “Heart and Soul”, and I’m sure you’ve seen it played before by 2 people. That makes it the perfect song to introduce the second, smaller iPad Mini, don’t you think?

iPad Mini Coming on Tuesday?

Apple will host another press conference on Tuesday, October 23, leading many to speculate that we will finally see the iPad Mini after months of rumors.

Follow this link to read all our iPad Mini rumor coverage. ”We’ve got a little more to show you,” read the cryptic invitation. Ars Technica has an image of the invitation, sent one month after the tech company unveiled the iPhone 5. Check it out:

It has long been rumored that Apple would introduce a 7.85-inch version of the iPad this year before the holiday season, even though the company’s release cycle for the iPad typically happens in the springtime. Unsurprisingly, Apple has not commented publicly on the iPad mini, but the rumor mill has pointed to it not having a “retina” class display like the current version of the (full-sized) iPad. There are also rumors that Apple may introduce updated Macs during the event.” (Image via)

Apple Reportedly Orders Parts For 10 Million Mini iPads

Apple has yet to announce the iPad Mini officially yet, but The Wall Street Journal is already  reporting that the company has ordered 10 million units.

Check it out: “Some component suppliers to Apple in Asia say they have received orders to make more than 10 million units of the smaller tablets in the fourth quarter. That is roughly double the order that were placed for Amazon’s Kindle Fire tablets in the same quarter, these suppliers say.”

Apple is rumored to be sending invites to the press on Wednesday to a press conference where they will allegedly reveal the 7-inch tablet. We’ll have to wait and see.

$249 Mini iPad Coming Soon?

Just as Google is getting into tablet business and rumors of a new Kindle Fire are circulating, rumors that the iPad Mini will cost as little as $249 have hit.

Boy Genius Report has the rumor: “Apple’s upcoming tablet will feature a 7.85-inch IGZO LCD display manufactured by Sharp and it will be as thin as Apple’s iPad 2, which is marginally thinner than the current iPad model. The site also claims the iPad mini will cost between $249 and $299 when it launches, though it cites unnamed analysts in reporting that price range.”

Last week, Google released the Nexus 7, a $199 7-inch tablet computer that it is designed to consume digital media content like apps, music, books and movies from Google Play. We’ve heard rumors that Google is planning to launch a 10″ tablet and also rumors that two new Kindle Fires, a 7-inch version and a 10-inch version, are coming.
