The rise of iPhone theft have made the crime so prevalent, they’ve been dubbed Apple Picking. If you’re a victim, you’ve probably considered the Yellow Jacket’s iPhone case and taser in one. Last year, the company introduced a weaker model for $99, but the new case design comes with 950,00 volts and 1.3 milliamps. According to users and those willing to test the taser’s effects, the first model was not strong enough, but this new model was capable of giving arm spasms.
Of course, there’s also the question of whether you’d want someone taking your phone’s case and returning that tase towards you, the owner. Around January of 2013, a phone thief used a taser to stun, then, subsequently steal a phone from a woman waiting at a San Francisco bus stop.
It’s only a matter of time before an actual gun is a permanent part of phone cases, and not fake ones. In a statement to the Verge during CES, the CEO of Yellow Jacket, Sean Simone said, “There are a lot of different weapons you could stick on this bad boy. Instead of a Taser it could carry a flashlight or a knife. That’s all in the works.”
