Rodale's Split into Three; Promotions(?) At Daily News

October 28, 2011
David Zinczenko continues his upward trajectory at Rodale. He is now the leader of the "Healthy Living" unit, which includes Men's Health, Women's Health and Prevention. The move comes as top sales executive Mary Murcko exits the health and fitness publisher and Maria Rodale looks to remake the company. David Willey, editor-in-chief of Runner's World, also gets a promotion to the head of the "Active Living" group, and Rodale is seeking a third person to take charge as general manager of the Digital/New Brand Development division. Expect more licensing deals (and more of David Z on TV)...

The Daily News undergoes a reshuffle that no one can seem to understand. Bob Sapio, Scott Cohen and Adam Berkowitz all received promotions that may or may not actually be demotions as editor-in-chief Kevin Convey attempts to satisfy owner Mort Zuckerman... Robert Blau and Steven Hahn join the Pulitzer Prize board, replacing David Kennedy and Amanda Bennett... Layoffs are coming to Gannett, but executives can't decide whether to wait until after Christmas...

Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia lays off somewhere between 20 and 60 staffers as it looks to reinvent the brand... New York Media names Larry Chevres chief technology officer. He had been vice president for engineering at Ziff Davis... Bo Jones leaves the Washington Post Co. after 32 years. He will be president and CEO of MacNeil/Lehrer Productions... Ira Silverberg and Chris Calhoun leave Sterling Lord Literistic. The former has been in the business for 26 years and will be literature director at the National Endowment for the Arts...

Staffers are running for the hills (literally?) at THR.com. Patrick Kevin Day and Lindsay Powers leave the recently relaunched website. Day returns to the Los Angeles Times, which he departed two months ago to join the Hollywood trade... Steve Krakauer -- yes, former TVNewser Steve Krakauer -- lands a promotion at CNN... Rock Center makes another hire, snagging Tom Bettag as segment producer... Clear Channel cuts "hundreds" across the country. The company says they weren't made to cut costs but rather as a rethinking of the strategy...

Jared Grusd departs AOL for Spotify. The SVP of business development follows former AOL sales chief Jeff Levick to the music-sharing startup. Grusd's role is still up in the air... Executives continue to flee Yahoo... And there are changes at Spike TV, Univision Communications and more...
