The Newsweek Daily Beast Company lands a new head as Baba Shetty steps into the CEO role. He replaces Stephen Colvin, who leaves for an executive in residence job at Lerer Ventures. The incoming executive had been chief media officer at Hill Holliday and worked with Newsweek on the Mad Men-themed issue. (Page Six hears Barry Diller and IAC used former Time Inc. CEO Jack Griffin to lead the search.) Shetty will report to editor-in-chief Tina Brown, which seems like a confusing org chart. "Baba is a real catalyst in bringing ideas to the marketplace," the EIC said in a statement. "He is extremely gifted at brand and digital strategy, is a strong leader, and is the perfect partner for the next phase of The Newsweek Daily Beast Company and our expanding live events business." Traffic to TDB and ad pages in Newsweek are up a lot and a little, respectively, but the next challenge is attempting to make the combined brand profitable. If Shetty can achieve that feat, he'll be worth all the money in the world...

Keija Minor gets promoted to editor-in-chief at Brides. She had been executive editor there. Harper's recruits Jeff Madrick, former New York Times economics columnist. He's the first business commentary columnist in the magazine's 165-year history. That's, um, sort of insane on a number of levels... Bruce Gottlieb is National Journal's new president, after Andy Sareyan decides to step down to spend more time with his family... Jessica Silvester signs on as shopping editor at New York, leaving O, The Oprah Magazine where she had been assistant editor... Maxim recruits Laura Leu as senior editor. Before jumping to the editing side, Leu had been writing stories for outlets such as Women's Health and Cosmopolitan... Christine Rannazzisi-Gerstein lands a promotion at Country Living, Good Housekeeping, and Woman's Day...

Sheila McClear leaves the New York Post where she had been a features writer. She joins the growing list of talent running from the paper... The Village Voice needs a new editor-in-chief after Tony Ortega left (was fired?) last week... The Chicago Tribune loses science and healthcare beat writer Trine Tsouderos, who jumps to GolinHarris as healthcare media director...

BuzzFeed taps Jeff Greenspan as chief creative officer. He spent the last year at Facebook and will be responsible for being the company's "big idea" guy. Other needs on the BuzzFeed roster seem to include "longform editor," which is wonderful and wonderfully concerning all at the same time. Has longform jumped the shark? And, if so, is there a GIF that could animate that for us?... Microsoft hires Nancy Tellem for its new production studio. The former entertainment president of CBS will head up an effort to develop series for Xbox... R/GA hires a host of talent for its San Francisco office... And there are changes at Entertainment Weekly, Billboard and more...
