CQRC Adds Two New Scribes

Unknown-1CQ Roll Call has hired two new reporters. They are Katy O’Donnell and Randy Leonard. O’Donnell comes from National Journal and most recently, Main Justice. Leonard, meanwhile, will be covering environmental and energy policy. He comes from a private consulting group where he managed investigations and cleanup at contaminated sites. He’s been writing freelance for the NYT.

See the internal memo from Executive Editor Anne Hoy. Editors and reporters,

I am pleased to announce that Katy O’Donnell is joining our news staff to cover tax policy. Katy, who will be working with Paul Page and his economic and finance team, was a staff writer for National Journal where she covered budget and appropriations issues for more than two years ending in 2012. In that position, she wrote about the 2011 battle over raising the nation’s borrowing authority, the resulting efforts of the “supercommittee” and the maneuvering over tax increases and defense spending cuts at the end of 2012. Most recently, she has been a cybersecurity reporter for Main Justice, an independent news organization that covers the Justice Department. She is a graduate of Dartmouth College.

Randy Leonard is also joining the news staff to cover energy and environmental policy as part of Paul Hendrie’s energy, environment and transportation team. Randy is well suited for this position, having been an environmental consultant who managed investigations and cleanup projects at contaminated sites for a private consulting group. He has been a freelance reporter for The New York Times since 2012 and before that covered multiple environmental and energy issues for the Dundalk Eagle in Maryland. He studied geology as an undergraduate at Wheaton College and earned a masters degree in journalism at Northwestern University.

Please join me in welcoming both reporters on their first day today.

Anne
