Morning Hire: National Review Names Costa D.C. Editor

National Review has named Robert Costa to be their Washington Editor for the magazine and website. Editor Rich Lowry announced the news in a release this morning.

Costa has been National Review‘s Political reporter since 2010. In his new post, he will be directing reporting efforts for NR and NRO and managing the Capitol Hill bureau.

“My focus is really going to be building up a reporting team and making sure we’ll be covering Capitol Hill as best we can,” Costa told FishbowlDC. “We’re still going to have a great Washington team…at the same time we’re going to be bringing some reporters down to Washington from New York and [will be] looking to make some new hires. We’re looking to bulk up our ranks.”

Costa, who was National Review Institute’s inaugural William F. Buckley Fellow in Political Journalism, was recently cited as one of the capital’s best journalists by Politico and Washingtonian. He is a CNBC contributor who frequently appears on “The Kudlow Report,” and MSNBC’s “Hardball.”

A native of Yardley, Pa., Costa earned a bachelor’s degree in American studies from the University of Notre Dame in 2008, and a master’s degree in politics from the University of Cambridge in 2009.
