Morning Weirdness: Mika’s Baby Obsession

For the past few days MSNBC “Morning Joe” Co-host Mika Brzezinksi has been grasping onto babies and toddlers in Boca Raton, Fla., the site of the show for the final presidential debate. Yesterday she and Joe Scarborough each clutched an African American baby girl in their laps at various points in the show. The cuteness faded fast and seemed to degenerate into heated competition between the hosts — who did the baby like more? At different points you could hear the baby in the peach dress wailing.

Is anyone else finding this as dumb as we are?

See the parade of half pints…

Why are the parents allowing their babies to be abused like this? Can Child Protective Services be called in to assess?

Today Mika was at it again. First there was 3-year-old Harper (pictured here, her sparkly shoes below), a toddler who made faces in Mika’s lap as Joe, Willie Geist, Mike Barnicle and John Heilemann tried to discuss important foreign policy matters. Meanwhile, Mika held onto Harper for dear life, even posing questions to Harper as to what she thinks about the presidential race. She supports Obama. “She’s my girl,” Mika cooed.

Really?

But she wasn’t done. At the show’s close, when they ask one another what they’ve learned on the program, Mika held 9-year-old Anabelle tightly to her bosom like a tortured kitten. What the hell? Poor Anabelle looked shell-shocked and smushed but appeared to play along with the weirdness. Asked who she supported for President, Anabelle replied matter-of-factly, “Mitt Romney.”

The obvious played out: Mika was horrified, Joe was elated.

So cute, right? Blech!
