Launched in 2002 by ISLANDS Media, Destination Weddings & Honeymoons came into being due to the burgeoning destination wedding market. Since more people are opting to tie the knot in a faraway locale, the mag aims to give them help with planning and ideas “they need to get through the experience with minimum stress and maximum joy,” said editor-in-chief Susan Moynihan.
Sixty percent of the book is freelance-written, and the editors rely on freelancers to be their “eyes and ears” in the field, especially for FOB pieces. There’s also opportunities in the feature well.
“Most bridal magazines focus on traditional weddings (receptions, etiquette, fashion), devoting only a small percentage of their coverage to the specifics of planning from afar and even less of their coverage to honeymoon travel,” said Moynihan. “That’s all we do, all the time. We are inclusive of different lifestyles and customs and celebrate culture, travel and sense of place.”
