At first sight, it is difficult to get excited about the passion fruit. Look for passion fruit with wrinkled, dimpled skin, such as the one in the background. They're ripe. The dull aubergine of the skin doesn't beckon like the lusty crimson of a strawberry. When you pick up the oval fruit, the paperlike weight doesn't conjure any promises of a ripe, juicy experience.
