Professional Experience
An award-winning journalist, I write about minority issues, specifically how social and political issues impact those in underserved communities. I have also written service pieces, health articles, personal essays, human interest stories and conducted Q&A's with some of the nation's top minority newsmakers and experts, including Charles Bolden, the head of NASA, Mignon Clyburn of the FCC and most recently U.S. Surgeon General Regina Benjamin. My award-winning article, "Wednesdays in Mississippi," revealed the untold story of Black and White women in the North who traveled to the Deep South during the turbulent Civil Rights Movement to give supplies to Freedom Schools. A documentary film was created based on my piece. My multimedia pieces looked at suicide among young African American men and food deserts in the nation's capitol. I believe everyone has a story and my goal is to tell the backstories of American lives.
