Professional Experience

As an award-winning reporter for The Philadelphia Inquirer, I wrote about corrupt politicians and violent criminals for a dozen years. I traveled on assignments from Maine to Southeast Asia. I was a whiz at breaking news, but I also spent two years on a 40,000-word narrative project. My expertise and interests range from crime and politics to travel and food. I left the newspaper several years ago to pursue fiction and to teach creative writing at Rutgers University. I am willing and able to tackle any freelance assignment.

Other Work History

I was a staff writer at The Philadelphia Inquirer for a dozen years. My beats included the Philadelphia police, Philadelphia City Hall, New Jersey federal courts, New Jersey politics and social services, and a stint as night shift general assignment reporter. I also worked at newspapers in Virginia and West Virginia, where among other beats I covered the constant battle between the proponents of industry and the environment. I also have traveled on numerous national and foreign assignments.
