I started a blog and freelance writing in 2006, and I've been a freelance social media and community manager since 2009. I realized there was a need for people in the social media field when I returned to the States after living abroad for over eight years. I lived in South Korea, a country with fast Internet connections. As a blogger, I took advantage of that. I started a blog and had to market it. I did so very successfully. My blog led to an offer to write a newspaper column. That column covered fashion, celebrities and notable people visiting Seoul. The urge to communicate is a basic human need; we just have some new ways to do it. Social media evolving quickly. To be good you have to keep up with the trends but also know what works and what doesn't.
