Editor and author Tina Brown has sold her memoir to Henry Holt’s Metropolitan Books imprint. Media Beast will come out in 2016.
Agent Ed Victor negotiated the deal with publisher Stephen Rubin in “an exclusive submission.” Rubin published Brown’s biography of Princess Diana, The Diana Chronicles. Metropolitan Books publisher Sara Bershtel will edit.
The book will cover Brown’s legendary career as a young magazine editor, but also cover her tim leading Talk magazine, working with Harvey Weinstein, her CNBC talk show “Topic A” and her leadership at The Daily Beast. Brown left the website earlier this week.

In the memoir, Brown will tell the inside story of her years revolutionizing magazine journalism, beginning with her editorship of Tatler in London at the age of 25. She’ll unzip the vivid and very personal diary she kept from the 80s and 90s when she first hit New York to become editor in chief of the almost defunct relaunch of Condé Nast’s Vanity Fair. Over the next eight and a half years she made a renowned writer out of a struggling film producer named Dominick Dunne; published trailblazing covers with Annie Leibovitz, Helmut Newton and Harry Benson; and increased the circulation from 200,000 in 1984 to 1.2 million in 1992. Brown went on to revive and reinvent the legendary New Yorker magazine, hiring top talents such as David Remnick, Lawrence Wright, Malcolm Gladwell, Jane Meyer and Jeffrey Toobin and increased newsstand sales by 145 percent. She broke the legendary magazine’s taboo against photography by appointing Richard Avedon as its first staff photographer, and introducing provocative new cover artists such as Art Spiegelman and Edward Sorel.
