Morningstar is hiring: Markets Reporter in New York
Morningstar, New York, NY, United States, 10261
Morningstar seeks an experienced financial journalist for the position of markets reporter on our New York-based markets coverage team. Our core mission is to help investors meet their financial goals, and we approach covering the markets through that lens. That means putting the day-to-day noise of the markets in context while informing investors about the news and trends that are critical to making smart decisions.
We are looking for a reporter who can combine a lively, engaging style with a proven ability to make complex subjects accessible to a wide audience, from advisors and sophisticated DIY investors to readers whose investing experience may only be a target-date fund in their 401(k).
The successful candidate will do more than parrot the conventional wisdom spouted by market pundits about the factors driving the market’s ups and downs. Instead, you’ll be able to tap into Morningstar’s extensive in-house database and research to explain and illustrate market trends in a way that differentiates our coverage from that of other news outlets.
Job responsibilities:
- Write two or three articles per week, ranging from short takes to longer deep dives.
- Report on high-level trends in stock and bond markets, as well as key equity market sectors and industries.
- Write about Fed policy and important economic trends as they relate to the markets.
- Provide investors with insights on high-profile individual stocks and stocks in the news.
- Profile important IPOs.
- As warranted, report on commodities and cryptocurrencies.
- Build narratives around key investing trends using data from Morningstar and other sources.
- Turn data into compelling charts.
Qualifications:
- A passion for the markets.
- 3+ years actively covering stock or bond markets.
- Proven ability to write on deadline and accomplish same-day turnaround.
- Strong news judgement in identifying subjects for articles.
- Demonstrated comfort with learning new databases and other tools.
- Curious, creative thinker with a collaborative approach to producing commentary and storytelling.
- A bachelor’s degree is required.
