KCAU 9 News, the Nexstar ABC affiliate in Sioux City, Iowa, is seeking a Digital Content Producer. This position is responsible for hour-by-hour execution of the digital content plan, showcasing news, weather, and sports content on all platforms.


This position is the foundation of the KCAU 9 News Digital Department and works closely with the assignment desk and Digital Reporters who contribute local, digital exclusive content to various digital platforms.


The Digital Producer leads the transition from broadcast-focused newsrooms to multi-platform newsrooms through active daily example, providing training in methods, processes, and tactics, as well as in creating/editing original content beyond that which is produced for on-air.


Responsibilities:

  1. Develops and leads winning strategy for station content.
  2. Expert understanding of Facebook, Twitter, and other social media platforms.
  3. Reviews copy and corrects errors in content, grammar, and punctuation, following prescribed editorial style and formatting guidelines.
  4. Uses social media and website to build and reinforce brand recognition and drive viewers to television.
  5. Determines a story's emphasis, length, and format, and organizes material accordingly.
  6. Researches and analyzes background information related to news stories to provide complete and accurate information.
  7. Gathers information about events through research, interviews, experience, or attendance at political, news, sports, artistic, social, or other functions.
  8. Pitches on-brand local and trending stories during morning meetings.
  9. Checks reference materials such as books, news files, or public records to obtain relevant facts.
  10. Shoots and edits content for on-air and digital.
  11. Produces reports for all platforms.
  12. Ensures that all content meets company standards for journalistic integrity and production quality.
  13. Builds and calendars digital campaigns to promote local shows and specials.
  14. Writes stories for the web and other digital platforms.
  15. Performs other duties as assigned.
  16. Finds new ways to use social media and website to engage with viewers.

Requirements & Skills:

  1. Degree in journalism; daily newspaper or news site experience required; live, working web samples and/or print pages preferred.
  2. Proficiency in Associated Press style, Adobe Photoshop, and Basic HTML preferred.
  3. CSS, Flash, and other relevant technology skills are a plus.
  4. Maintain a positive work environment through active team participation and cooperation with co-workers in all departments.
  5. Respond positively to feedback.
