Remote Localization Scriptwriter (TV/Film) - A Job Post by Ava Gao

Location: New York City, New York; London, England; California City, California

Status: Pre-production

Type: Internet Project

Genre: Freelance | Remote | Short-Form Drama | $1,000–$2,500 per project

We're looking for dialogue-driven, culturally fluent screenwriters to help localize Chinese short-form drama scripts into emotionally resonant, fully natural English—whether it's modern romcoms, fashion dramas, revenge thrillers, or billionaire love stories. This is not translation—this is full creative localization.

What You'll Be Doing:

You'll work on serialized short dramas (10–70 episodes) and handle one of two types of projects:

  1. Full localization: Adapt Chinese translated scripts into high-quality, native-level English dialogue and action lines.
  2. Polish/retouch: Deep-edit English drafts for tone, character voice, emotional accuracy, and dramatic rhythm.

Scripts are usually 1–2 minutes per episode and must read like something made for today's global streaming audience.

You're a Fit If You:

  • Have a background in screenwriting, film, literature, or creative writing (degree preferred)
  • Are skilled at crafting natural, localized dialogue with strong emotional and cultural rhythm
  • Are fluent in English (native or native-level); Chinese is a bonus but not required
  • Can understand character arcs and dramatic structure in short-form series
  • Are familiar with Final Draft
  • Understand Hollywood-standard formatting and punchy visual storytelling
  • Are collaborative, efficient, and open to creative feedback
  • Can accept a free trial test (1–3 episodes, based on real scripts)

Compensation:
• $1,000–$2,500 USD per project
• Pricing is based on your skill, creative level, and the actual difficulty of the project—not just word count

Work Setup:
• Fully remote
• Flexible schedule, as long as deadlines are met

To Apply:
Please send:

  • Your CV or portfolio
  • 1–2 writing samples (screenplay or creative localization/editing samples preferred)
  • A short note about your experience with localization, TV writing, or dialogue polish
  • Confirm that you’re open to completing a free trial draft
