Job Purpose

The News Reporter presents the latest news to the station’s TV and digital audiences in an understandable, objective, and accurate manner, maintaining the reputation of KTVN 2 News Nevada and aiming for continuous growth as a writer, researcher, and reporter.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Write packages, voice overs, and live shots for air and digital platforms.
2. Perform general assignment reporting.
3. Coordinate with producers and assignment editors for interviews and story developments.
4. Generate new story ideas.
5. Follow up on previously reported stories for updates.
6. Stay informed by reading local newspapers and national publications daily.
7. Participate in editorial meetings with story ideas prepared.
8. Improve on-air skills including live reporting and voice work.
9. Guide and work with photographers.

Requirements and Qualifications

1. Bachelor’s degree in Journalism (preferred) or high school diploma/equivalent (required).
2. At least one year of professional reporting experience with live reporting preferred.
3. Strong community contacts and research skills.
4. Excellent writing, typing, and communication skills.
5. Ability to learn or use non-linear editors and ENG equipment.
6. Good interviewing skills and professional on-air presentation.
7. Ability to work under tight deadlines and accept constructive criticism.

Additional Notes

This role requires working in a 24/7 news environment, with potential long hours, unplanned shifts, weekends, and holidays.
