Overview
Hiring Event requires the candidate to be present at our location in-person to qualify - Residence Inn Short Pump at the Notch, 1800 Wilkes Ridge Cir, Richmond, VA 23233.
Communication Technician Apprentices are employees with basic responsibilities. This Apprentice level will receive instruction and work experience installing basic communication equipment, involving hand tools, power tools, electrical blueprints, and knowledge of the NEC. Apprentices must strive to become well-qualified technicians by registering for related courses, attending regularly, and being punctual.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Assisting in wiring, grounding, cable pulling, prefab assembly, core drilling, cable tray installation, device installation, and material handling.
- Maintaining a clean work area and securing tools daily.
- Participating in job site cleanup and material preparation.
- Using hand tools effectively and safely, wearing PPE, and following safety policies.
- Reading and understanding activity hazard analyses and practicing proper tool and material safety.
- Assisting in telecom wire pulling of various sizes and participating in daily briefings.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED with 0-6 months experience.
- Must be 18 years or older.
- Reliable transportation to/from the job site and school.
- Willingness to attend evening classes for three years.
- 40 hours/week position with potential overtime and temporary travel.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift at least 100 pounds, relocate a 12-foot ladder, and work at heights up to 60 feet.
- Capability to perform physical tasks such as climbing, lifting, reaching, and repetitive movements.
- Good vision, color perception, hearing, and English communication skills.
Desire:
- Ability to follow directions and install quality products under supervision, with basic hand tools including snips and punch down tools.
- Experience with fiber optics and vocational training is a plus.
