Role

FOX 5 San Diego/KUSI News duopoly is seeking a reporter to support our top-rated newscasts committed to serving the San Diego community. The successful candidate excels in ad-libbing, storytelling on all platforms, connecting with viewers, and models professionalism on and off the air.

Responsibilities

• Accurate reporting of news stories
• Attend editorial meetings and regularly pitch original story ideas
• Develop community contacts and a network of news sources
• Ad-lib live breaking news, tell compelling stories, and interact effectively with studio anchors
• Collaborate with photographers, producers, and the news desk in story development
• Update newsroom on story progress and elements
• Use social media to inform the public about news stories
• Participate in station partnerships within the community

Education and Experience

• B.A. or B.S. Degree in journalism, communication, or related field, or equivalent experience
• Preferably 3-5 years of TV news reporting in a medium to large market

Requirements and Qualifications

• Positive and productive interaction with colleagues in the field and studio
• Uphold station values and demonstrate professionalism on and off the air
• Strong on-air presentation: credible, personable, engaging
• Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
• High attention to detail
• Receptive to constructive feedback
• Flexible schedule, willing to work additional hours, shifts, and holidays as needed
• Positive, solution-oriented team player
• Ability to perform under pressure and make decisions quickly

Compensation

Starting at $31/hr, commensurate with experience and skill level.
