Head of Marketing About MLCommons MLCommons aims to accelerate AI development and adoption through open, state-of-the art industry-standard benchmarks and data tooling to measure quality, performance, and risk. We’re a global, non-profit industry consortium supported by 125+ members and affiliates, including startups, leading companies, and academics. Our members and partners include many of America’s leading technology companies, including Cisco, Dell, Google, Hewlett Packard, Intel, Meta, Microsoft, NVIDIA, and Qualcomm, in addition to over 100 other commercial and research organizations from around the world. We create, operate and maintain community assets, especially benchmarks, data standards and datasets, to facilitate developing and evaluating artificial intelligence (AI) systems at an accelerated pace. Key projects incubated and hosted by MLCommons include these and other benchmarking and tooling suites: MLPerf, the industry standard for measuring performance and efficiency of AI on everything from smartphones and laptops to the world’s largest supercomputers, AILuminate, which measures large language models’ performance against known harms; Croissant, a standard for describing data sets and making them usable and discoverable across platforms; MedPerf, which is building a platform for benchmarking AI models to deliver clinical efficiency in a privacy preserving way. We are seeking a Head of Marketing to shepherd MLCommons and its wider community into the next era of our work. This is a unique opportunity to step into a key leadership role within a community whose work is grounded in an open source ethos and lead a strategy for raising awareness of the organization and its achievements. MLCommons is a fully remote 501(c)(6) non-profit organization and we support a flexible working environment. About the Role The Head of Marketing at MLCommons will be expected to own and execute a marketing strategy for the organization. We are a lean, distributed organization that relies extensively on our broader member community for contributions ranging from strategic input all the way down to tactical execution. In this role, you will first and foremost need to lead laterally by working with a wide range of stakeholders including MLCommons staff, member organizations, and volunteer community members. Your primary responsibilities will include: Community Cultivation:

As a member driven organization, we depend on the financial and engineering investments our members and contributors make. And our marketing efforts benefit tremendously from the great things members say about us, and partner with us on. You will be responsible for clearly defining and executing plans to deeply engage our members in our work and to build a robust sense of community amongst all of our contributors. Thought leadership and brand awareness:

We are not an advocacy organization, and we do not have a consumer facing brand. But we do have a (sometimes strong!) point of view about what will be required to accelerate AI development and adoption over the coming decade, and we want our point of view to be heard. In this role you will help us craft and communicate our point of view in ways that resonate with our key audiences, building MLCommons a reputation as a key thought leader in AI. Partner Marketing:

As an organization with members that cross several industry lanes, we’re uniquely positioned to be creative about collaborative marketing activities with our partner organizations. We’re looking for someone who understands the power of a network of partners that want to co-promote shared wins. You should be keen to build relationships with our partner’s marketing teams, and collaborate closely on tactics that will keep our members informed, engaged, and excited about our progress. There is a lot of detailed work that goes into each of these focus areas, and we will look to you to help define the objectives, strategy and tactics for driving that work forward. About You You are a hands-on marketing leader with experience managing brand reputation and cultivating relationships on behalf of organizations. These are some qualifications you might have, but none of these are prerequisites for the role — if you’re excited by the opportunity outlined above, we want to hear from you! We are looking for someone who: Is a structured and clear communicator. Ideally you have a demonstrated track record of making novel ideas a reality within organizations or communities. Has a bias for action. You take pride in getting things done efficiently and effectively, with buy-in from your key stakeholders. Is a quick study. AI moves fast, and our community of technical experts is working at the cutting edge of many disparate areas of research and across many different industry verticals. Is enthusiastic about AI. You may not be the earliest adopter of AI tools, but you follow the industry closely, know the key players at all levels of the AI stack and are familiar with the basics of their business models. Loves building community. You enjoy building relationships with people from all kinds of backgrounds and with all kinds of expertise.
