SALARY: $57,116.80 Annually

Master's degree in Library Science from an accredited library school program by the American Library Association and two years of professional library experience, including one year of supervisory or leadworker experience. Must have own transportation. A criminal background check is required prior to employment.

Position Summary

The Librarian Supervisor - Adult Services is responsible for advanced professional and supervisory work within the Alachua County Library District, involving administrative and managerial duties, requiring professional judgment and current knowledge of library services, technologies, and management techniques.

This role involves significant responsibility and decision-making, such as supervising a department, branch, or major library division.

Work is performed under the supervision of a higher-level manager and reviewed through reports, conferences, and observation of results.

Examples of Duties

  1. Assist the Branch, Department, or Section Manager.
  2. Assume administrative and supervisory responsibilities in the absence of the Manager, coordinating service delivery, safety, and security.
  3. Supervise subordinate staff, including scheduling, instructing, reviewing work, recommending personnel actions, conducting performance reviews, and training.
  4. Assist in establishing plans, priorities, procedures, and recommend organizational or resource changes to meet library goals.
  5. Provide information services and guidance to patrons regarding materials and technology use.
  6. Develop and manage district-wide material collections, including selection, rotation, and weeding.
  7. Oversee the development and maintenance of library catalogs.
  8. Resolve staff and patron issues.
  9. Assist in preparing the Library District budget.
  10. Plan and coordinate special projects to improve library services.
  11. Ensure policy compliance through effective communication and enforcement.
  12. Perform related duties as required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Extensive knowledge of professional principles and practices of public librarianship.
  • Knowledge of major social sciences, natural sciences, and humanities fields.
  • Familiarity with reference sources and emerging technologies for patron service.
  • Management and supervisory skills for effective service delivery.
  • Proficiency with word processing, presentation, and spreadsheet software.
  • Ability to supervise staff, enforce policies, and evaluate performance.
  • Ability to conduct public presentations and programs.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to establish working relationships.
  • Competence in record-keeping, research, and report preparation.

Physical Demands

Regularly sit, talk, hear; reach and move; occasionally lift/move up to 25 pounds; vision requirements include close and focus adjustment for printed and digital materials.
