JOB DESCRIPTION


WACH-Columbia, SC has an excellent opportunity for a Full Time Broadcast Engineer. This role acts as a vital link between the engineering team, leadership, and station personnel. We seek a dynamic individual to enhance our engineering team's impact! The position involves maintaining computers and servers related to television transmission and video automation systems, along with business-side workstations. The candidate will also be responsible for hands-on support of all broadcast equipment.


Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  1. Maintain and repair all broadcast and supporting equipment as needed.
  2. Provide support in managing servers, network security, and network services.
  3. Assist with transmitter maintenance.
  4. Support PC/Mac hardware/software including installation, servicing, updating, and repairing workstations.
  5. Address maintenance and repair requests promptly.
  6. Respond to facilities maintenance issues, including HVAC, plumbing, grounds, etc.
  7. Be prepared for unexpected or late-night engineering emergencies.
  8. Serve as the subject matter expert and point of contact for equipment and technology, staying current with industry standards.
  9. Provide additional support and expertise in the absence of the Chief Engineer to staff and leadership.
  10. Implement, install, and maintain engineering systems; provide end-user support across departments.

Requirements:

  1. Associate's degree or higher in IT, electronics, or a related field.
  2. 2-4 years of broadcast-related experience.
  3. A team-oriented attitude and commitment to quality.
  4. Strong familiarity with Microsoft, Mac, and Linux operating systems.
  5. Knowledge of hardware and computer system technologies, including installation, configuration, diagnosis, preventive maintenance, and LAN/WAN networking.
  6. Proficiency in troubleshooting and responding quickly under pressure.
  7. Excellent communication skills.
  8. Experience as a Master Control Operator is preferred but not required.
  9. Valid, unencumbered driver's license.

Physical Demands/Work Environment:

  1. Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays.
  2. On-call duty as required.
  3. Ability to lift equipment weighing less than 50 pounds.
  4. Regular work at the TV station.
  5. Opportunities to learn and adapt to new priorities.
  6. Support transmitter operations and equipment maintenance.
  7. Networking and wiring tasks.
