Description

The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders in the College of Arts and Social Sciences at the University of Houston invites applicants for a full-time, non-tenure track for a Professor of Practice position.

The Professor of Practice position provides clinical education and supervision in the Master of Arts program in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders. The clinical supervisor must be on-site and present when graduate students treat and evaluate clients. This position is 1.0 FTE and will be on a 12-month basis. Individuals must be able to provide clinical education/supervision in multiple areas of clinical speech-language practice.

Required qualifications include a Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology; CCC-SLP; eligibility for Texas State licensure in speech-language pathology; a minimum of 3 years (preferably 5+) clinical experience with a variety of pediatric and adult speech-language disorders; and experience with clinical education/supervision of students. Additionally, candidates must have strong written and oral presentation skills; strong organizational skills including the ability to independently prioritize multiple tasks and work independently; excellent ability to work with others including colleagues, staff, and students.

Responsibilities Include

  • Clinical education of graduate students at the University Speech-Language-Hearing Clinic and collaborative site/screenings
  • Management of clinical and student records
  • Compliance with HIPAA, FERPA and other state and federal regulations
  • Coordination of clinical education including student orientations, responding to student questions, managing student interventions, coordination of competency completion opportunities for 2nd year students, and clinic assignments/scheduling
  • Assisting in the development and coordination of continuing education opportunities and meetings for Clinical Educators
  • Completing administrative tasks including, but not limited to, ordering clinic supplies, managing and coordinating hearing screening and community engagement opportunities, management of Graduate Assistants or student workers
  • Attending clinic and COMD department meetings as appropriate

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders
  • ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence in speech-language pathology
  • Minimum of 3 years of clinical experience, preferably five years
  • Texas Speech-Language Pathology licensure
  • Experience in clinical supervision of graduate students
  • Required 9 hours of supervision continuing education
  • Experience with child and adult populations
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with conducting hearing screenings
  • Program development experience
  • Bilingual

% of Time - Job Duties (in order of importance)

80% Direct clinical education/supervision of students at USLHC and off-campus collaborative site/screenings

10% Coordination and management of clinical education for students including student orientations, responding to student questions, managing student interventions, and coordination of competency completion, and clinic assignment scheduling. Assisting in clinical education administration tasks.

5% Departmental and Clinical Team Meetings

5% Other duties as assigned
