Responsibilities

  1. Work in partnership with the local Operations and Technical Directors to provide guidance on building products and materials, their suitability, and suggest alternatives.
  2. Implement existing policies and note needed policy updates.
  3. Collaborate with Project Architects, Project Managers, and the Technical Director to schedule, allocate, and review workload and project schedules for specifications.
  4. Promote in-house specifications procedures, conduct workshops, and ensure latest standards are included in specification masters.
  5. Contribute to firm and project goals, providing input on material selection for LEED and Living Design certifications.
  6. Demonstrate strong knowledge of building components, systems, and material requirements across all project types.
  7. Plan, schedule, and prepare construction specifications and procurement requirements.
  8. Coordinate specifications with project consultants and ensure compliance with formatting and standards.
  9. Maintain awareness of industry standards, building codes, and sustainable design practices.
  10. Assist in the preparation of addenda, responses to submittals, substitution requests, and RFIs.
  11. Ensure work quality, accuracy, and compliance with Perkins&Will standards.
  12. Collaborate with peer specification writers and mentor emerging professionals.
  13. Approach tasks creatively, within scope, schedule, and budget, in an organized manner.
  14. Communicate effectively and participate in meetings with clients and partners.

Baseline Skills and Certifications

  • Understanding of architectural principles, construction materials, and methods.
  • Knowledge of building materials, codes, and construction techniques.
  • Proficiency in CSI principles and AIA/CCDC Contract Documents.

Software Skills

  • Deltek Master spec, AIA Contract Software, Word, Excel, Adobe Suite, RIB Spec Link, Bluebeam Revu.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree; professional degree in architecture preferred.
  • CSI CDT required; LEED GA within 6 months.
  • Living Design accreditation (e.g., LEED AP, BREEAM, WELL, SITES, Passive House, ILFI).
  • Preferred: Professional licensure, CSI and CCS certifications.

Additional Information

Salary range: $80,000 - $110,000 annually, depending on location and experience.
