Job Summary The University Web Developer and User Experience Designer reports directly to the Assistant Director of Web Development, UX, and Content, with additional guidance from the Digital Director of Marketing and Communications, and art direction from the Senior Director of Creative Strategy and Branding. This role is a key member of the Digital Marketing and Communications team, responsible for the visual and functional design of the sjsu.edu website(s). The incumbent develops and designs the website's look and feel, integrates user experience best practices, and contributes to content strategy. Responsibilities include web programming, design, maintenance, and visual development of various web pages and components, as well as providing consultation and support to other university departments. Key Responsibilities Support the core SJSU website(s) with updated graphics, multimedia, and UI improvements. Support visual development for communication outlets like the SJSU Newsroom and digital magazines. Design web interfaces and collaborate on interface pattern libraries. Implement design patterns across digital platforms. Create a consistent visual design for the SJSU.edu website following digital marketing and art direction. Ensure accessibility of digital content and applications. Align content strategy with UX project plans. Participate in web project planning and documentation. Collaborate with developers on advanced web components and integrations. Coordinate interface design updates with creative teams. Provide web graphics and content support to university divisions. Stay current with UX trends and strategies. Create wireframes, mockups, prototypes, and conduct user research. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Proficiency in design software such as Photoshop, Illustrator, Figma, Adobe Xd, Sketch, After Effects, and video editing tools. Knowledge of code editing tools like Visual Studio Code, Dreamweaver, Sublime Text. Experience with CMS platforms (WordPress, Drupal, Modern Campus), email marketing, and video editing software. Thorough understanding of web accessibility standards and universal design principles. Ability to work with CSS frameworks, responsive design, and JavaScript libraries. Strong graphic design skills and ability to translate communication needs into visuals. Familiarity with emerging technologies such as HTML5, CSS, Python, AI. Experience with user research, usability testing, personas, and user journeys. Knowledge of web analytics tools like Google Analytics and SEO practices. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, educational technology, communications, or related fields, or equivalent coursework.
