This position is for temporary engagement through our staffing partner DZConneX. Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States. Ability to work hybrid from our Santa Monica, CA studio is required.
Naughty Dog has been crafting critically acclaimed games for 40 years, known for pushing boundaries in storytelling, gameplay, and technology. Recent releases include The Last of Us Part I and II Remastered for PS5, now also available on PC. Currently, we are working on Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet and seek talented individuals to join us.

The ideal candidate combines creative and technical success, cinematic aesthetic sense, attention to detail, and a passion for narrative and systemic dialogue. You should be adept at balancing ideas with aesthetic tone within narrative design.
You understand the importance of collaboration in creating captivating narratives and communicate clearly. You will work closely with Dialogue Designers, writers, animators, designers, and programmers.
The Senior Dialogue Designer is part of the Dialogue Team within the Audio Department, reporting to the Dialogue Lead and Audio Director. This role does not include writing responsibilities; please check back for writing/narrative positions.
What You Will Do
Coordinate and implement dialogue for gameplay/story scenarios, in-game cinematics, NPC AI-driven dialogue systems, and non-verbal vocal exertion tagging on animations.
Iterate on design and polish gameplay experience collaboratively with writers, animators, designers, and programmers.
Support scripting tasks such as creating script functions, debugging, and prototyping gameplay.
Implement scripting regions, spawners, and markup within a level editor.
Provide detailed feedback on writing for cohesion, consistency, and character development.
Become a growing expert on features you own or share.
Review and assign work to mid- and associate-level team members where appropriate.
What Skills You Will Use
5+ years of game audio experience with at least 1-2 shipped AAA titles.
Understanding of naturalistic dialogue timing, pacing, and flow.
Strong scripting skills with languages like Lua, Python, etc.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Strong problem-solving and organizational skills.
Receptiveness to changes and a positive team attitude.
Bonus Skills
Programming skills (C++, C#).
Experience with narrative media and audio design/editing.
Knowledge of DAWs and digital audio theory.
