Overview

The Stage Crew / Audio Visual Technicians are responsible for assisting with the assembly, disassembly, and maintenance of stages during theater productions. They provide backstage assistance before, during, and after productions for various technical needs. This includes setting up and testing sound, lighting, and other equipment according to set requirements. They also support, set up, tear down, and maintain all audio, video, and stage equipment used at the venue, including theater and event spaces.

This role offers an hourly rate of $27.00-$30.00.

Responsibilities

  • Provide stage and AV support for all events, including shows, concerts, conferences, meetings, and weddings.
  • Assist touring shows with integration to the house system as needed.
  • Support technical setup and operation during events.
  • Set up and tear down portable systems across the venue.
  • Set up and dismantle orchestra shells, ceilings, and soft goods.
  • Operate fly rail systems.
  • Prepare stage setups, including risers, soft goods, lighting, and instruments.
  • Maintain high standards of customer service for clients and staff with AV/stage needs.
  • Organize and maintain equipment storage spaces.
  • Foster good relationships with vendors and clients.
  • Coordinate with supervisors and managers regarding setup, AV requirements, and other needs.
  • Assist in setting up and dismantling pipe and drape, tables, chairs, and other equipment in theater and meeting spaces.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma required.
  • Previous experience in audio-visual or stagehand roles required.
  • 2-3 years of stagehand experience preferred.
  • Ability to collaborate and follow instructions.
  • Willingness to work after hours and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work under pressure and maintain focus.
  • Good stamina and strength.
  • Experience with sound, lighting, and video equipment preferred, including wireless mics, mixers, speakers, and video boards.
  • Knowledge of DMX controls is a plus.
  • Familiarity with Windows OS.
  • Flexibility to work nights, weekends, and holidays as per event schedules.

Physical Demands:

  • Frequent walking, standing, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crawling, and working in cramped positions, with the ability to lift and carry up to 60 lbs daily.
  • Ability to climb stairs, work on roofs and catwalks over 50 ft high.
  • Good hand-eye coordination and reflexes for equipment operation.
  • Visual acuity including near, far, peripheral, and depth perception, with or without corrective lenses.

Work Environment:

  • Work may be indoors or outdoors, subject to weather conditions.
  • Exposure to noise, varying from minimal during non-events to loud during events.
  • Knowledge of safe operation of tools and equipment like service carts and scissor lifts.
  • Management may require crew to remain on site during paid lunch breaks when events are ongoing.
