Date and Times Saturdays from October 2024 - April 2025 | 10am-1pm

The Saturday Art Club is back! Part of the National Saturday Club network*, it is a free weekly creative drop-in event for young people aged 13-16 who live, work, or study inGreenwich. Sessions take place from 10am-1pm every Saturday at the National Maritime Museum, starting October 2024. All materials and snacks provided as well as travel expenses to cover any trips to other cultural venues outside the museum.Sign ups for the 2024-5 club are now open!

This is a wonderful opportunity to develop new skills, make new friends, achieve a Bronze Art Award and showcase your artwork in a national exhibition!

As a Club member, you will attend weekly Saturday classes facilitated by an artist, who will support you to develop new skills in critical thinking and creative practice. They will introduce you to working across different artistic disciplines from printmaking and textiles to sculpture and collage. You will also be supported to exhibit your work, facilitate workshops, visit other cultural institutions, and gain an accredited Bronze Arts Award.

As part of the National Saturday Club, you will take part in national events throughout the year including:

  • Visits to leading cultural institutions
  • The London Visit, in which club members take part in a pop-up self-portrait exhibition and visit London’s cultural venues
  • A masterclass with a leading creative industry professional
  • The Summer Show where all club members exhibit their final pieces at the prestigious Somerset House, London

*The National Saturday Club coordinates national network of further education, higher education, the cultural sector, and creative industry working together in partnership to deliver these enriching extracurricular activities.

Helpful information

Does it take place every Saturday?

The club takes place every Saturday in the National Maritime Museum from 10am to 1pm during autumn, winter and spring terms only. A full timetable will be issued in advance of the project.

Arts Award catch-up sessions TBC in April/May.

The TBC dates in April/May are dependent on whether any additional sessions are needed for you to achieve your Bronze or Silver Arts Award and will be decided with you, on an individual basis, in February/March.

Do I need to bring anything?

All materials will be provided, including snacks and refreshments. You’re welcome to come along by yourself or bring some friends.

Do I need to attend every session?

To get the most out of each session, it is important to come on time and regularly, and to let us know if you can’t make it in advance.

How much does it cost?

It is free! All food and equipment will be provided, including travel expenses for scheduled trips outside the museum. You do need to be able to travel to and from the museum for the weekly sessions.

  • Try new things and develop new skills in creative and critical practice

  • Experience trips to other museums/galleries in London
  • Gain valuable work experience for your CV and future progression, including experience of designing and creating work for a professional quality public display

To join the Saturday Art Club, we ask that you:

  • Be open to trying new things!
  • Be interested in exploring and honing your creative, artistic skills
  • Be aged 13-16 years
  • Live, work, or study in the Royal Borough of Greenwich
  • Be available for the duration of the project and communicate with us if you can’t attend any sessions

How do I sign up?

If you are interested in joining the 2024-25 club, you will be asked to submit a form with some contact information and a bit about yourself! The link for this will be available soon, in summer 2024. Places are limited, and this club is popular, so we do also operate a waiting list.

Amy is the Youth Programmes Producer at Royal Museums Greenwich. She works with people aged 13-24 on creative projects. The best bit about Amy’s job, in her opinion, is supporting younger audiences to feel comfortable and try their best by listening to what they need, how they feel, and what they are passionate about!
