We are seeking a passionate and knowledgeable Reading/Writing Tutor to join our LS reading tutoring program. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of the science of reading and be familiar with phonics programs, specifically Fundations and Wilson. This role involves working with small groups and one-on-one with students in grades K-3 to help them develop essential reading skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide individualized and small group reading instruction to students in grades K-3.
  • Utilize evidence-based reading strategies and phonics programs, such as Fundations and Wilson, to support student learning.
  • Assess students’ reading abilities and progress, and adjust instruction accordingly.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers and other educational staff to support students’ overall academic development.
  • Create a positive and engaging learning environment that encourages student participation and enthusiasm for reading.

Qualifications:

  • Associate/Bachelor’s degree in Education, Reading, or a related field. Advanced degree or certification in Reading Instruction preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of the science of reading and evidence-based reading instruction methods.
  • Familiarity with phonics programs, specifically Fundations and Wilson.
  • Experience working with young children, preferably in a K-3 educational setting.
  • Ability to work effectively with small groups and provide one-on-one instruction.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Patience, creativity, and a passion for teaching reading.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with diverse student populations.
  • Previous experience in a similar role or setting.
  • Certification in Fundations or Wilson Reading System.

The successful candidate will be able to develop a healthy rapport with Lower School students, work collaboratively with colleagues in the department, and embrace Waterford School’s mission, vision, and values in curriculum, teaching, and membership in the community.
