Traffic Design Project Manager, PE
Job Overview:
Location: Charlotte or Raleigh, NC Work Schedule: Hybrid - 4 days per week onsite Key Role Highlights:
Leadership track: Opportunity to lead a team and manage high-impact transportation design projects Focus: Physical infrastructure design, and involves civil/transportation design coordination and compliance with state DOT design manuals (e.g., NCDOT) Technical focus: designs traffic signals, signage, pavement markings, and traffic control plans Project oversight: Includes budgeting, cost/schedule tracking, proposal development, and QC Project lifecycle stage: Enters the project during final design & construction documentation, and translates planning/analysis results into construction-ready plans Client mix: Public and private sector projects, with a strong focus on NCDOT Software & tools: MicroStation, AutoCAD, traffic signal design tools, and possibly using SimTraffic or design-oriented plugins Cross-functional collaboration: Work closely with CAD techs, surveyors, designers, and field staff Mentorship: Expected to supervise and develop Associates and Interns Career path: Ideal for engineers who want to focus on technical design leadership and CAD-heavy work. Strong pathway toward Transportation Design Manager or Principal Engineer
Candidate Requirements:
5-12 years of progressive civil/traffic engineering experience NCDOT experience is required Professional Engineer (PE) license required Proficiency in MicroStation and/or AutoCAD Previous signal design experience is highly preferred Strong leadership qualities and interest in managing direct reports
