About the Position
Under the supervision of an assigned supervisor, take verbatim notes at court hearings, trials, and other proceedings; transcribe stenographic notes to produce transcripts of courtroom activities.
Court Reporters hired after July 2014 will comply with California Government Code § 69950, which outlines the fee structure for transcription services.
Qualifications include a valid California Certified Shorthand Reporter (C.S.R.) license, a valid California Class C driver's license, and the ability to maintain insurability under the Court's vehicle insurance policy.
Knowledge of:
- Legal and medical terminology
- Oral and written communication skills
- English grammar, spelling, punctuation, vocabulary
- Interpersonal skills such as tact, patience, courtesy
- Courtroom proceedings in civil and criminal cases
- Operation of court reporting equipment
Ability to:
- Attend court proceedings to take stenographic notes
- Take verbatim notes at 200 words per minute
- Transcribe notes accurately and prepare transcripts
- Review, edit, and correct written materials
- Communicate effectively orally and in writing
- Work independently and maintain effective relationships
- Attend proceedings at various locations
