JOB TITLE: Inman Branch Assistant, Grade 19
LOCATION: Inman Library
DATE AVAILABLE: August 1, 2025
SALARY: $2,541 per month (Includes generous benefits package)
HOURS: 40 hours per week
Week A: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday 11am-8pm; Friday 9am-6pm; Sat OFF
Week B: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday 10:45am-8pm; Thursday 11am-8pm; Friday OFF; Sat 9am-5pm
Every 3rd Sunday 12:00-5:00 (Off Monday of the Sunday you work)
(Note: Must be flexible to accommodate schedule changes, may be asked to work other times as needed.)
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience and some supervisory experience. Must complete pre-employment testing.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Provides superior customer service when assisting patrons of all ages with information requests, patron account services, computers, digital services, and other library equipment.
- Assists with promoting library card signups and community outreach.
- Assists with all circulation duties, library card registration, patron account services, and collection maintenance.
- Works with a variety of software and library automation programs.
- Contributes to branch meetings and workflow by making suggestions and sharing ideas.
- Regularly checks the branch email, Intranet, and library website for new information.
- Remains aware of security and safety concerns, taking appropriate action as needed.
- Performs basic readers’ advisory and information assistance, material retrieval, and places hold requests.
- Responsible for weekly in-transit and missing reports.
- Assists with preparing courier bins for delivery and processing.
- Assists with maintaining the tidiness of shelves and display areas.
- Assists with training new employees and additional branch coverage for programming.
- Responsible for opening and closing procedures for the branch, including register and deposit tasks.
- Supports supervisor directives and assumes responsibility of building and staff in supervisor’s absence.
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience and some supervisory experience.
- Knowledge of popular books, pop culture, and current events.
- Strong technology skills and ability to work with various devices, software, and audio-visual equipment.
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills, positive attitude, cultural sensitivity, sense of humor, and ability to interface with people from all backgrounds and age groups.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Creative, flexible, organized, with good time management skills and attention to detail.
- General knowledge of procedures, practices, and equipment of a public library, with ability to alphabetize and arrange items numerically.
- Ability to take direction and work independently or in a team environment.
- Strong work ethic, willingness to take initiative, and ability to direct tasks of coworkers.
- Driver’s license valid in South Carolina with the ability to drive to other libraries or community outreach events.
