Brown University Athletics is seeking candidates for multiple Athletics Public Address Announcer positions. Located in Providence, Rhode Island, and a member of the Ivy League, our intercollegiate athletics program consists of 34 varsity teams with approximately 1,000 athletes participating within the NCAA Division I.

The public address announcer position is responsible for informing attendees of pertinent information during athletic contests. This includes making commercial "reads" throughout the game or event. The ability to articulate clearly, accurately, and project to a large crowd is essential. Knowledge of the event, its rules, and the appropriate timing for announcements is extremely important. Occasionally, the PA Announcer will need to collect starters from coaching staff prior to the game and proofread scripts for accuracy.

All division employees are required to demonstrate exemplary ethical conduct and conformance to NCAA rules and regulations. Duties must be performed in compliance with all NCAA and Ivy League rules. Any violations or knowledge of violations must be reported to the appropriate authorities. Employees in coaching positions must undergo annual NCAA rules education and maintain current AED/CPR and First Aid certifications, which are provided at no cost through the division.

Qualifications:

  • Must have comprehensive knowledge of sports rules and regulations.
  • Knowledge of, or ability to learn, specific game protocols related to Ivy League and NCAA rules.
  • Ability to interact professionally with game officials, Athletic Communications staff, Event Management staff, and Marketing and Promotions staff during events.
  • Ability to observe and react promptly to on-field or on-court events to deliver accurate announcements.
  • Excellent speaking voice with clear projection and annunciation; ability to read announcements timely.
  • Willingness to support a diverse and inclusive environment.
