Description:The Lawrence Herbert School of Communication is pleased to invite applications for an enthusiastic adjunct faculty in the Department of Journalism, Media Studies, and Public Relations (JMSPR) at Hofstra University to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in public relations, strategic communication, and reputation management. Courses may also include online tools, writing, international public relations, media and influencer relations, and audience research.
Adjunct faculty may be occasionally called upon to supervise internships and independent study.
The ideal candidate for an adjunct instructor of journalism will have:
- Current professional experience in journalism or a related field
- Teaching experience in higher education
- Availability to teach in-person, daytime courses
Qualifications:
- A master’s degree and teaching experience.
- Candidates must be available to begin teaching in the spring 2026 semester.
- Capable of teaching digital storytelling with photos, video, audio, and data, and how to edit media with industry-standard software.
- Can teach introductory to advanced reporting courses for multiple platforms and/or data journalism, which include practical and ethical considerations in gathering, analyzing, and visualizing reputable data
- Be adept at leveraging social media for journalistic ends.
- Have an understanding of the ethical, economic, and technological challenges facing the changing media landscape and demonstrate innovative approaches to addressing them in an undergraduate and graduate curriculum.
- Successful candidates will have demonstrated a commitment to promoting equity, diversity and inclusivity in an educational environment.
