This is a 0.5 FTE , 2-year position with the possibility of renewal. This position is hybrid as defined by Dartmouth policy with an expectation of being on campus 3-4 days per month with possible additional required presence for departmental events.

Position Purpose

The Communications and Marketing Coordinator at the Dartmouth Center for the Advancement of Learning ( DCAL ) is responsible for the overall communications and marketing of the learning innovation portfolio. This includes developing web content, overseeing social media, design and print activities, and marketing events. In concert with other center staff and partners, the Coordinator contributes to DCAL’s overall strategic communication plans and oversees outreach strategies to promote excellence in teaching learning, Dartmouth’s commitment to academic innovation, and supporting mental health and wellbeing.

  • Bachelors degree in communications or related field
  • 3-5 years of experience required (or equivalent combination of education and work experience
  • Outstanding writing skills in a variety of communication formats
  • Excellent organizational, planning, and decision-making skills
  • High level of interpersonal skills to effectively interact with potential partners and collaborators and to engage in outreach as representative of DCAL
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and to be flexible and collaborative in a dynamic environment
  • Ability to engage in creative problem solving and troubleshooting to meet diverse organizational needs across communications and events
  • Tact and discretion in dealing with sensitive or confidential matters
  • Ability to work across the Dartmouth community, including senior leaders, faculty, staff and community organizations to promote strategic communications and marketing goals
  • Familiarity with confidentiality regulations including FERPA
  • Commitment to inclusion and to serving the needs of a diverse institution
Preferred Qualifications
  • Masters degree or more advanced degree in communications or related field; professional experience (7+ years) in communications, marketing, or project management is considered equivalent qualifications
  • Familiarity with D-CAL’s programs and practices
  • Experience managing websites (Wordpress and Drupal), mailing programs (MailChimp), and event databases (Airtable)
  • Demonstrated experience working with Universal Design for Learning, faculty/educational development, and working in higher education

  • Establishes and implements a comprehensive strategic communications plan aligned with DCAL’s innovation portfolio, programs, and the priorities of the institution
  • Develops compelling, on-brand content for websites, news stories, newsletters, social media, video, spotlights, infographics, and presentations, consistently applying best practices in educational development communications to this work, along with considerations for diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging
  • Designs tests (i.e., A/B testing) to improve the performance of website content, institutional messages, and other materials
  • Ensures that all messages, reports, newsletters, websites, and other materials, including verbal and visual content, adhere to Dartmouth’s brand guidelines and are in the preferred voice of the DCAL
  • Acts as primary copy editor for web and newsletter content using Dartmouth style guidelines

Event Marketing and Tracking -

  • Provides support for event postings on DCAL’s event system for innovation initiatives, cross-posting on relevant calendars, send reminders, survey’s, and collect event data
  • Supports the function and improvements to DCAL’s event system to support the work of the Center and strategic goals

Website Management -

  • Maintains and updates DCAL and teaching and learning resources websites, including posting news stories, developing content, and a UDL workbook
  • Writes engaging website content, including Q&A-style interviews, feature stories, case studies, and news items
  • Conducts content audits, creates site maps, migrates content, and performs other web-related duties

Coordination and Collaboration -

  • Collaborates with colleagues in the DCAL and partners to collect and modify content for newsletters
  • Engages with stakeholders to update content on websites, develop accessible and user-friendly architecture, and make all content accessible, including PDFs
  • Coordinates with the Office of Communications to develop a library of images to support Dartmouth-wide messaging about teaching and learning
