Under supervision, the Library Specialist performs para-professional library work assisting with planning, organizing, implementing, and promoting special programs, events, and exhibits. Work also involves assisting library patrons and maintaining library materials and records. Employee must exercise tact and courtesy in all contacts with library patrons.
Reports to the Director of Library Services or designated Library Coordinator.
Hiring salary: $37,144, Depending on Qualifications
- Assists with planning, organizing, implementing, and promoting special programs, events, and exhibits; as assigned, serves as lead for these activities. May serve as lead for specific program areas.
- Performs tasks at the circulation desks and/or bookmobile; checks library materials in and out; registers patrons for library cards; maintains records and tabulations. Collects fines for overdue and lost materials, and other miscellaneous fees.
- Answers phone, opens and closes the library on a rotating shift, and provides technical assistance to patrons using library computers, printers, copiers, and other equipment.
- Performs reference tasks such as instructing readers in the use of reference tools, including computers, and answering questions on historical, cultural, or genealogical topics.
- Inspects returned books and materials for damage, collects books from book depository, prepares carts for shelving, and reads shelves regularly.
- Attends relevant seminars and workshops, trains and oversees volunteers, and may operate County vehicle for various tasks.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

- Possession of a high school diploma/GED with coursework in child development, children/adult literature. (Associate’s Degree preferred).
- Two (2) years of experience in public library work.
- Equivalent training and experience providing the required skills, knowledge, and abilities.
